Excerpt: ...itinerant and local, and numbering some five thousand, have been distinguished by an increase rather than abatement of zeal and industry, in the common service of the Church. Our Bishops, although but four in number, and two of them with but infirm health, have been enabled, with one or two exceptions only, to attend and preside over the deliberations of seventy/--si: z Annual Conferences during the last four years, and these scattered over an extent of country, stretching from Eastern Virginia to Western Texas, and from South Carolina beyond the limits ofMissouri. '1 be travelling ministry throughout these vast limits, efliciently aided every where by their local fellow-laborers in the immense field spread out before them, have furnished proof of their devotion and fidelity in the common cause of preaching Christ and reforming the world. The doctrines, discipline, and usages of original Methodism, have been taught in their purity, and maintained with zeal and vigor, as constituting the true distinctive glory of the Church. Revivals have been numerous and extensive, in nearly every section. Thousands have been added to the Church, and all the signs of the times indicate, that in the proportion we have been wrpnged and deserted by our former friends, God has been mindful of our interests, and has prospered our cause. A careful review and survey of the past and present of our history, furnish no ground of. discouragement, but rather assure us that while we " walk by the same rule, and mind the same things," we have nothing to fear from the malignity and injustice of those who are seeking our injury, and would glory in our downfall.
